Abilities

HP: 3,600,000

Melee: Hits for 3500 to 4500 on plate, 3500 on a bear tank.

Needle Spine: Fires a needle spine at three random targets in a cone shape, dealing 2890 to 3910 physical damage, mitigated by armor. Then, the spine deals 2280 to 2520 frost damage to everyone within 6 yards of those who were hit originally.

Impaling Spine: Fires a gigantic spine at a target and impales them, dealing 4500-5000 physical damage and stunning the target. The spine becomes physically lodged in the target, dealing 2750 bleed damage every second the spine is in there. This cannot be removed with any ability; instead, a gear symbol will appear on the large spine. When this happens, another raid member must right click the spine to pull it out of the afflicted person and put it in their inventory.

Tidal Shield: Every 60 seconds, Naj'entus will put up a shield of water around him. While the shield is up, he is immune to spells and attacks, and he will regenerate health at the rate of 1% every two seconds. Wound Poison or Mortal Strike will mitigate the amount healed by 50%. He will still use his other abilities while in the shield. To break the shield, throw an Impaling Spine at him (from your inventory or by using a macro; it works like a snowball). When the shield breaks everyone in the raid will take 8500 frost damage; this can be avoided through a resist, Cloak of Shadows, Divine Shield, or Iceblock.

Preparation

Raid composition

1 Tanks (Bear or warrior)
8 Healers (If you are having problems with people staying alive, bring 9)
6 Melee DPS or fewer (the rest should be Ranged DPS)

Gear, buff, and consumable requirements

Raid Everyone in the raid needs a minimum of 8500 health; 10k+ is recommended for all members. Stamina food and elixirs and Major Frost Resistance Potions are also recommended.

Rogue Apply Wound Poison to your offhand weapon.

Paladin Use Frost Resist Aura.

Shaman Keep Frost Resist Totem up at all times.

Positioning

Main Tank Position Naj'entus in the center of the room.

Melee DPS Split into two groups, one on his back left and the other on his back right. Each group should stand on top of everyone else in the group, and be no more than 6 yards away from the other group. No more than 3 people per group are recommended, as the frequency of Needle Spines hitting multiple people will be too great.

Ranged DPS , Healers Spread out in many groups of two as much as you can away from other groups. You can go behind Naj'entus as well if necessary. There should always be someone right by you to pull the Impaling Spine out should it hit you.

On the Pull

Hunter Misdirect Naj'entus to the Main Tank to start the fight.

Main Tank Back Naj'entus up to the center of the room.

Raid After 20 and then 40 seconds after the pull, Naj'entus will throw an Impaling Spine, which needs to be removed from the afflicted player immediately by another raid member right clicking on the large spine. The afflicted player will need a lot of healing to prevent death; though the spine will stay on the ground should he or she die. Naj'entus will continue to throw spines at 20 and 40 seconds after his Tidal Shield, regardless if it is broken or not. If you pick up a spine, announce it in raid or voice chat so your raid leader knows who can throw one.

At 60 seconds after the beginning of the fight and every 60 seconds after that, Naj'entus will throw up his first Tidal Shield. When everyone has full health, the raid leader should announce that the spine should be thrown; a raider with a spine in their inventory should throw it immediately at Naj'entus to break the shield. This can be accomplished by the following macro:

#show Naj'entus Spine
/use Naj'entus Spine

Everyone in the raid will then take 8500 frost damage. If needed, use immunity abilities or frost protection potions right when your raid leader announces to throw the spine to prevent the damage.

This cycle continues from 100% to 0.

Melee DPS Make sure you are not close to the other melee group. Rogues should keep Wound Poison on Naj'entus at all times, and Arms Warriors should always keep up Mortal Strike.

Ranged DPS Watch your proximity to others. Ensure that you pull spines out immediately to prevent unnecessary damage and death. If the person you are paired up with dies, get close to someone else so that you won't be stuck alone without someone to pull an Impaling Spine out of you.

Healers This fight is extremely healing intensive, but remember that the easiest way to prevent damage is to be quick about pulling out Impaling Spines. Be alert to raid damage and spines, and use whatever tool necessary to not go out of mana. Ensure that no one is out of range of heals, and watch your proximity to others. A few seconds before the Tidal Shield goes up, begin topping off every person in the raid. The sooner everyone is topped off, the faster the spine can be thrown, and the less Naj'entus will be healed by the shield.
