Joana’s 1-70 Horde Leveling Guide was created by a guy who goes by his World of Warcraft character name, Joana. He claims to have set the record for leveling to 60 on a new server, Jubei'Thos. He did it in 4 days and 20 hours and created a guide to show how he did it. In fact, he has the whole run recorded and uses it in his guide. Joana also won Blizzard’s race to 50 leveling contest, and has been the first to reach level 60 on six different servers, so he knows how to level fast.
One great thing about this guide is that it has map coordinates for everything in the guide and it has interactive map coordinates thanks to an add-on called MetaMap Mod. Quest givers, flight paths, and quest mobs are carefully laid out so that they are easy to find, making leveling easier.
The guide has been updated to include how to level Blood Elves and includes all of the Outland leveling information. It also includes free updates for future patches and expansions, including Wrath of the Lich King.
This guide has many plus points, but it also has several downfalls.
First, it focuses on questing. Joana says that he does, “95% questing 5% grinding.” If you hate to quest and love to grind, then this guide probably isn’t for you.
Second, the guide is only for Horde characters. Many guides out on the market have information for both factions, so for the same price you’re paying for half the information. This really limits players who have both Horde and Alliance toons.
Third, Joana says on the site, “All quests are linked to both Thottbot and Allakhazam for easy references on how to do quests. Having all the quests linked to both sites will give you more views and opinions on how to do the quests.” This is great if you use Thottbot or Allakhazam, but it kinda sucks if you use other World of Warcraft info sites such as Wowhead.
Fourth, every leveling section in Joana’s 1-70 Horde Leveling Guide has a video taken from Joana’s record breaking leveling streak to show exactly what to do (35 hours of video at 12.6 GB). This is great, in-depth information for those that have the time to view it. But wouldn’t it be better to use this time actually leveling? Also, his character is a hunter, so the video won’t be incredibly helpful if the viewer has a different class. For example, a warrior levels much differently than, say, a hunter.
Overall, this guide probably best suits a Horde hunter who likes to quest, since the guide has hunter specific tips, videos of a hunter leveling, and focuses almost solely on questing. There’s no problem in trying it, the site says that if you are not happy with Joana’s 1-70 Horde Leveling Guide you can ask for a refund.
