Ahn’Kahet: The Old Kingdom

Ahn’Kahet is the second five-man Nerubian instance located in Dragonblight. Ahn’Kahet was the original location of Azjol-Nerub, but now houses Nerubian Rebels, Twilights Hammer Cultists, and The Forgotten. The recommended level range is 73-75.

Gear and consumables

Like most Wrath of the Lich King dungeons, the Heroic version of this instance is tuned for players who are using high quality level 80 gear, as well as the best flasks and food buffs available. Getting the best possible gear for your character will make this fight a whole lot easier.

In WotLK, professions can be used to craft high quality epic gear. Most raid bosses also drop an epic bind-on-equip item. These items are the easiest way to get your character geared up fast, but they’re expensive to craft or buy on the AH. The easiest way to get your hands on them is to use a guide like WoW Gold Secrets, which has tips for making several thousand gold per day. This is a great way to save time and clear instances faster.

The quest for Ahn’kahet can be received by both Horde and Alliance from Kilix the Unraveler right outside the instance.

The Faceless Ones

The trash consists mainly of undead in the first half and humanoid in the second, but there are a few elementals and beasts throughout.  The layout of this dungeon can be confusing at first as there are no clear indicators of which way to go, so I have included a map.

Some notable trash of Ahn’Kahet is the Bonegrinders of the first half as they hit really hard (think bogwalkers from Steamvaults) and caution should be used when pulling and killing the groups on that platform as a Bonegrinder in addition to the mobs you’re already fighting may be hard to recover from.

On this Same platform you must deactivate two devices in order to access Prince Taldaram, they are located at the top of spiderweb pathways to the north of the area.

Also the second half of The Old Kingdom has a lot of casters who hit relatively hard, interrupts, silences, crowd control and line of sight are great assets in clearing this trash with ease. In this area there are also patrols who wander everywhere, a good idea would be to mark them just to avoid any accidents.

Elder Nadox

Brood Plague – Diseases the enemy, causing 12750 nature damage over 30 seconds.

This is a tank and spank boss with adds. At random intervals throughout the fight Elder Nadox will summon an Ahn’Kahet Guardian and several Ahn’Kahet Swarmers, the Guardian must be picked up by the tank and the dps must kill it as fast as possible as the Swarmers will be immune to all damage while the guardian is alive; therefore making them un-tankable and giving them the opportunity to make short work of your party in no time. After two or three Guardian summons, the boss should be dead. Congrats on the first boss of The Old Kingdom.

Loot table:

Ahn’kahar Handwraps

Blade of Nadox

Crawler-Emblem Belt

Prince Taldaram

Bloodthirst – Instantly attack the target causing 120% weapon damage. In addition the next 3 attacks will restore 1% health

Conjure Flame Sphere – Conjures a sphere of pure fire that floats through the air towards the target while firing searing beams at targets that come within 18 yards.

Embrace of the Vampyr – Consumes the life force of the target, stunning it and inflicting 1500 shadow damage every 2 seconds or until Prince Taldaram sustains 20,000 damage.

When Prince Taldaram is engaged, dps him down for about 10 seconds and he will summon a flame sphere and vanish, the party should stay 18 yards away from the sphere to avoid damage. As the Sphere dissipates, Prince Taldaram will reappear beside a party member and cast Embrace of the Vampyr, at this point the entire party(less the one being feasted on) should be dpsing Prince Taldaram to get him off the party member getting their life drained. He will continue to vanish and appear casting Embrace of the Vampyr as well as conjuring flame spheres at random throughout the fight. With any luck the healer won’t get pinned down for long, and you’ll have just defeated the second boss.

Loot table:

Talisman of Scourge Command

Slasher’s Amulet

Gloves of the Blood Prince

Jedoga Shadowseeker

Cyclone Strike – Performs a spinning attack that hits all nearby enemies, dealing weapon damage plus 150% and knocking them back.

Lightning bolt – Blasts an enemy with lightning, inflicting Nature damage.

Thundershock – Creates a cloud of lightning that lasts for 10 sec. blasting all enemies in a selected area for 1575 to 2025 Nature damage and inflicting 1575 to 2025 additional damage every 2 sec.

This fight is an all out dps war, as soon as she’s pulled you want to throw out as much damage as possible while avoiding any thunder clouds that appear overhead; they hurt, a lot. At approx. 75%, 50% and 25% she will run to the middle of the platform and levitate, this will cause a Twilight volunteer to walk slowly to the center of the platform in an effort of sacrificing themselves to empower Jedoga. BEFORE they get to the middle they must die, otherwise she will get a buff causing her attack speed and damage to increase significantly; this will most likely wipe the party. If the volunteers die in time, and thunderclouds are avoided, the third boss should be cleared.

Loot Table:

Cloak of the Darkcaster

Battlechest of the Twilight Cult

Jedoga’s Greatring

Herald Volazj

Mind flay – Inflicts Shadow damage to an enemy and reduces its movement speed for 3 sec.

Shadow bolt Volley – Hurls missiles of dark magic, inflicting Shadow damage to nearby enemies.

Shiver – Deals 1414-1586 Shadow damage when damaged. Jumps to nearby party member.

This is an incredibly fun, and individually challenging fight. For the first little bit it’s mostly just a tank and spank, until he casts insanity. Insanity will seemingly cause all your party members to turn against you.

Not to worry tho, what really happens is your party will disappear, being replaced by clones of themselves that only you can see at first, and in order to escape the illusion and return to the boss and your real party members all the clones must all defeated.

Dps should have no problem taking down the clones, and when they do clear the illusion, they will be able to see any clones the rest of the party has remaining and can assist with them.

Healers should just focus on keeping themselves alive until a dps clears their copies and can help.

After two or three phases of Insanity the last boss of The Old Kingdom should be face down, with an accomplishment on the wall.

Loot table:

Pyramid Embossed Belt

Mantle of Echoing Bats

Volazj’s Sabatons
